finsnowPuppy Socialization Classes

Give Your Dog the Best Start in Life!

Proper socialization is one of the most important things you can do with your puppy to make them the happiest and healthiest dog they can be and to avoid behavioral problems down the line. Once you get your puppy, you are working against the clock to introduce your puppy to as many people, dogs, places and things as you can in a positive way before the critical period of socialization ends around 12 weeks of age. The more positive experiences they have with new things on a daily basis as a young puppy, the more stable and less fearful they will be as adult dogs.

Think of it like vaccinating your puppy against potential behavior problems as an adult.

Training equipment you will need:

  • Collar, leash (6′ long, no retractable)
  • harness (recommended)
  • many tasty treats (get the good stuff)
  • vaccination records
  • bully stick or chew to keep your puppy occupied when we have discussion time
  • hats (any kind) and sunglasses (once instructed we will put these on to get our puppies used to these common items that can be quite spooky to the uninitiated pup)

No choke, prong, or shock collars allowed. Force-free methods are the basis of our philosophy and we especially believe puppies should not be exposed to methods that use force.

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 4.50.19 PMPuppies from 8 weeks to 16 weeks are invited to attend. Each session is designed to allow your puppy a safe outlet for play with other puppies so they can keep developing their social skills and learn the all important bite-inhibition. Puppies that are already shy or fearful are encouraged to attend, but we recommend speaking with a trainer before class so a safe and fun situation can be set up for the puppy beforehand. We take frequent breaks to allow the puppies to calm down and talk over difficulties you may be having while raising your newest family member.

These puppy socialization session are designed to focus on play and socialization and feature only small amounts of training.

We will keep things positive and discuss how using force-free methods is the easiest way to bring out the best in your puppy.  This is a family-friendly environment and polite children are encouraged to attend so the puppies may be exposed to people of all ages.

Stop by our drop-in puppy socialization class and see what all the fuss is about!

Health Note: All puppies and dogs must be healthy and current on all vaccinations (puppies need age appropriate vaccinations and adult dogs need at least distemper and rabies). Also, we have a no dog park policy for all puppy classes. Please do not attend puppy classes if you go to the dog park as well, since it may expose the other puppies to potentially dangerous germs. Thank you for your understanding.
